The focus in May has been on faster swimming with less rest. We have also been doing some backstroke work focusing on having our hips right at the surface of the water and getting our arms moving as fast as possible. We have moved away from freestyle 25s opting for 50s instead. As well, I have introduced the idea of fast 50s of backstroke. The swimmers are still trying to figure this one out! :) All in all, practices have gone great with a great effort from everyone.
Coming up this weekend is Silver Cup. It should be a great long course meet. Long course means that one length of the pool is 50m (instead of 25m like at our pool). This will mean less counting and less turns...yay! Almost all of the swimmers in the meet will be doing a 200m event and some will be doing a 400 free. It is our last big meet of the year so I wanted everyone to get the oppportunity to challange themselves a little bit. It's okay to be nervous about trying new things, but I put you in the event because I KNOW that you can do it so let's all stay positive!
The club has decided to have team pictures on the Saturday morning of Silver Cup. I know that many swimmers in our group were not able to commit to the meet but if you can make it to the Kinsmen downtown for just an hour or so that morning we'd love to see your smiling faces out there!
Make sure you check out the June calender for the end of the year events and any practice changes. The calender is accurate so if it says there is a practice change it's right.
See you at the pool!
